Motörhead - Biography

Motorhead formed in 1975 by Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister, after he was kicked out of the band Hawkwind. They went on to be one of the single most influential and iconic bands in ALL heavy music- from metal to punk, they defined a style and sound endlessly copied, most notably by Metallica and Poison Idea. The initial line up of Lemmy, Phil "Philthy" Taylor, and Fast Eddie Clarke, created a loud, blown out variation on a Chuck Berry/Little Richard/Hendrix styled hard rock madness, with volume and distortion it's main components. Such striking records as Overkill (1979), Ace Of Spades (1980), Iron Fist (1982), Orgasmatron (1986), and the now legendary double LP collection No Remorse (1984), solidified their place as the finest in their field, a meaningful entity to all rock fans, everywhere. After years and years of heavy speed and whiskey consumption, Lemmy died in December 2015, at the age of 70, surprisingly due to cancer. His death was preceded by that of original drummer Taylor.
