John Wiese - Biography
John Wiese is an experimental - electronic noise composer and visual artist from Los Angeles, California. In the late 1990s, Wiese moved from St. Louis, Missouri to California to study graphic design at the California Institute of the Arts. His art has been displayed around the world, and he has performed at major international festivals and toured extensively both as a solo artist and as a member of multiple groups including LHD, Bastard Noise, Sunn O))), and Sissy Spacek.
Weise is a very prolific musician, having released over 100 7-inches on various international labels including his own imprint, Helicopter. To celebrate the release of his 100th 7-inch, Exhausted Spectral Incantation, he held an exhibition appropriately called "100 Seven Inch Records By John Wiese" in Los Angeles in November, 2011 and in Berlin, Germany in February 2012.
In addition to his solo work, Wiese is also known for his collaborations with many artists including Sunn O))), Wolf Eyes, Merzbow, Thurston Moore, Bastard Noise, No Age, Liars, Smegma, Kevin Drumm, Cattle Decapitation, and C. Spencer Yeh. He has toured extensively with dates in Europe, Scandinavia, Australia, the UK and US. In 2007 he performed an installation with sound alongside artist Nico Vascellari for the 52nd Venice Biennale, a major contemporary art exhibit in Venice, Italy.
