Best Coast - Biography
Best Coast is a Los Angeles-based indie pop duo featuring singer/songwriter Bethany Cosentino and multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno. As Best Coast they create a lo-fi sound influenced by garage and surf rock. They released a series of 7"s and EPs between 2009-2010 which all sold out. Their debut full-length, Crazy For You (Mexican Summer), was released on July 27, 2010, to much acclaim, including Pitchfork who named Crazy For You "Best New Music" and NME who placed Best Coast #1 on their list of 50 Best New Bands of 2010. Drummer Ali Koehler (formerly of Vivian Girls) toured with Best Coast until 2011.
Best Coast collaborated with producer Jon Brion for their sophomore release, The Only Place (2012). Taking cues from '60s inspired country music and Fleetwood Mac songs, the band opted for a more polished sound as opposed to the lo-fi aesthetic of their debut.
In 2013, Best Coast released the 7 track "mini album" called Fade Away, on singer Bethany Cosentino's new label, Jewel City. The album was produced by Wally Gagel of Wax Ltd. In support of the new release, Best Coast performed at Amoeba Music Hollywood on October, 22, 2013. See photos here.
