Ben Lee - Biography

Australian singer/songwriter Ben Lee has been a prolific musician since his teens, releasing eight solo albums since 1995. Lee began his musical career at 14 years old with the band Noise Addicts. With the support of promoter/record label owner Steve Pavlovic, Noise Addicts earned several famous fans, including Mike D from the Beastie Boys, Evan Dando, and Thurston Moore. Although Noise Addicts broke up shortly after the release of their first full-length album, Lee was also a solo artist at that point, having already released one solo album in 1995 (Grandpaw Would on the Beastie Boys' Grand Royal Records) and was working on his follow-up album. His third album, Breathing Tornadoes (Capitol, 1999), earned him his first ARIA nominations for Best Male Artist, Album of the Year, and Single of the Year. Lee's 2005 album, Awake Is the New Sleep (New West), garnered more accolades and nominations, including ARIAs for Best Male Artist and Single of the Year. In addition to working on his own material, Lee began producing and collaborating with other artists, earning a GRAMMY nomination for producing Margaret Cho's album Cho Dependent. In October 2011, he released his self-produced eighth solo album, Deeper Into Dreams (Dangerbird Records).
