Amoeba Review
08/04/2020
Death Cab for Cutie's follow-up to Thank You For Today is a 5-song EP that proves the busy indie rock stalwarts are ever ready to drop new music in their spare time between recent covers and collaborations. The EP's single pays straightforward tribute to three kids who died in the 1999 Olympic Pipeline explosion in the band's hometown of Bellingham, WA. “Kids in '99” sets the theme for this short set of songs with its interesting, driving percussion and rhythms, and Ben Gibbard's standard thoughtful lyrics. “To The Ground” gets a bit darker in melody but without losing a beat, and offering uplifting moments in the chorus.
