Rio Grande Mud [Remastered 180 Gram Vinyl] (LP)
ZZ Top
Amoeba Review
Jeff Hunt 05/28/2010
No hippies allowed. ZZ Top served up an authentic platter of hot barroom boogie, and their sound only got better on their second LP. Rio Grande Mud was originally released on April 4, 1972, on the London label, and it featured an even more self-confident swagger of electric boogie and down-home shuffle. ZZ Top are Texas’ finest – Billy Gibbons on guitar and lead vocals; Dusty Hill on bass and vocals; and Frank Beard on drums – and they’re excellent here. “Just Got Paid” is a classic, and Dusty gets to take the lead on the memorable “Francine.” Highly recommended.
