Nazz Nazz (CD)
Nazz
Amoeba Review
Tiffany Anders 09/07/2010
On Nazz’s second release it is apparent that primary songwriter and producer Todd Rundgren was becoming increasingly more skilled at his craft. The group had already made a splash with the single from their debut album, “Hello It’s Me,” and on Nazz Nazz the group continues with sensational songwriting, particularly apparent on the outstanding opening track “Forget All About It,” which showcases Rundgren’s knack for blending complex song structure and arrangements into an ear-pleasing pop rock listen. Rundgren touches on the melancholy sensibility of his hit “Hello It’s Me” on the wonderful ballad-like “Gonna Cry Today,” which features brilliant sighing melodic backing vocals for added woeful emotion. This release was originally intended as a double album entitled Fungo Bat along with Nazz III. The two have since been combined on Nazz Nazz/Nazz III: The Fungo Bat Sessions.
