Now fully based in LA, the band effortlessly conjures up the dark side to the perpetual SoCal sun on these hazy, dreamy surfed-out songs. There’s an atmosphere of melancholy and yearning present throughout the course of the album’s run time — it’s a good look for Vivian Girls who use the tracks to reflect on self-acceptance, false starts, and love gone wrong. Memory is a welcome return for these masters of girl group harmonies fused with gritty garage.
