Indie artist Frances Quinlan releases her first solo album...sort of. With these initially solo acoustic performances that slowly turned into the band Hop Along over the past decade, with the help of fellow band member Joe Reinhart (who handles co-producing and engineering duties), Quinlan takes over the reins more fully on the album Likewise. This latest batch of songs are given a slightly more stripped back approach, allowing for more stark contrasts of instrumentation with her vocals: a bit of Wurlitzer organ here, solo bass line over a percolating beat there. This suits Quinlan and her observational songwriting well, and can only help to continue broadening her audience to the world at large.
