Emerald Valley [Green Vinyl] (LP)
Filthy Friends
Amoeba Review
08/28/2020
Indie rock supergroup Filthy Friends are back with their sophomore album, Emerald Valley. With a simple sound that belies their illustrious pedigree, the ‘Friends stick to a garage-punk blueprint as their bread-and-butter, for which Corin Tucker unleashes righteous screeds on environmental destruction, political corruption, and other classic punk rock targets. At times, Tucker’s impassioned yelp resembles Patti Smith, with Peter Buck’s squealing guitar supplying his best Lenny Kaye imitation. These indie rock vets have vitriol enough for the rest of us, battling villainy with volume in an era that seems to be increasingly tuned out and downcast.
