Amoeba Review
Metal titans Testament prove that there’s much more to Bay Area thrash than Metallica (to say nothing of Exodus, Possessed and Vio-lence). On their tenth album, Testament are riding a career high, sounding as brutal, electrified and blazing as ever. Gene Hoglan’s powerhouse drums fuse seamlessly with Eric Peterson’s visceral riffs, and Chuck Billy’s raging roar hits like a bomb. Forays into black metal (“True American Hate”) and even an icy ballad (“Cold Embrace”) provide pleasant side trips from the main event, unbelievably fast jackhammer thrash that levels every structure in the blast radius.
