Amoeba Review

Comprised of Lush’s Miki Berenyi, Moose’s KJ McKillop, Elastica’s Justin Welch and Modern English’s Mick Conroy, Piroshka is the supergroup of our most delicate, swooning, feedback-heavy dreams. On their debut record, Brickbat, the band gives a nod to shoegaze and post-punk while building a completely fresh sound that ably combines their multi-faceted talents. Washes of sound, insistent riffs, jubilant horns, and of course, Berenyi's sweetly cosmic vocals combine on the gorgeous "Everlastingly Yours," one of the album's two lead singles. On other songs, Piroskha takes on topics like greed, parenthood, inequality, and school shootings with deft lyrical abilities and shimmering melodies; it's a serious work that also just happens to be seriously beautiful.
