Big Exercise (CD)
The Homesick
Amoeba Review

The Homesick’s latest, The Big Exercise, is one of those rare records that just feels like a future classic. The songwriting is certainly ambitious, inspired in large part by the late Scott Walker, and accentuated by tightly-wound percussion, psychedelic vocals, and lush melodies. Yet there’s also a coziness to the music, a lived-in quality that ties the Dutch band’s more forward-thinking qualities to a long line of classic indie, post-punk, and art rock. The group effortlessly moves from bold flourishes to introspective interludes throughout the course of the album, and sometimes even in the same song. Few albums sound this vital on so many levels. The Big Exercise is a feast for the ears.
