Apollo XXI (LP)
Steve Lacy
Amoeba Review

Steve Lacy’s debut album, Apollo XXI, should establish the young R&B/hip-hop producer as one of music’s most exciting new acts. Lacy has been on the scene for a minute; he’s a member of The Internet, and has been building buzz through his work with Kendrick Lamar, Blood Orange, Solange, Vampire Weekend, and Mac Miller. On his first full-length, he demonstrates exactly why he has got so many people talking. His songs are funky and soulful, steeped in classic throwback vibes, with enough innovation and boundary-pushing to keep the sound fresh. The songs blend seamlessly from one to the next, showing off that not only is Lacy a master of the single, he certainly knows how to create an old school album listening experience.
