Girls

Amoeba Review
James Elliott 05/14/2010
One of 2009’s biggest indie hype bands, Girls have quite a story in singer Christopher Owens. Brought up in the religious cult known as Children of God, Owens escaped at age sixteen and immersed himself in rock and roll. After a few failed bands, he formed Girls and here we are. Fortunately the band’s music stands up a bit to the hyped story of its formation. On Album, the group synthesizes fuzzy ‘60s garage rock, Spiritualized’s spaced gospel drone and ‘80s post-punk into an engaging if not exactly groundbreaking set of songs. Catchy and well executed, this group has made a totally enjoyable debut. Recommended.
