Amoeba Review

08/10/2020

Norwegian art-pop/electronic artist Aurora's new album expands on the themes and soundscapes of its predecessor, A Different Kind of Human (Step I). Featuring soaring, upbeat melodies sung in her flexible, sugar-toned vocals, these tracks are symphonies of joyful dancefloor beats. Tracks like “The River” and “Animal” may be accessible pop songs, but they're also substantial, orchestral and intriguingly quirky, with lyrics referencing the urgency of environmental issues. “The Seed” takes a darker tone and is perhaps the most direct in its lyrics on this theme, with the repeated chorus line, “When the last tree has fallen and the rivers are poison, you can not eat money, oh no.”
